World No. 1 Ash Barty has carried her hot form into the Volvo Car Open in Charleston, advancing to the second round.
It took Barty just 62 minutes to dismantle Japan's Misaki Doi 6-2, 6-1. Barty whipped six aces past Doi, breaking on five occasions to win the match.
Next up, Barty will take on American Shelby Rogers, who came from a set behind to defeat 13th seed Amanda Anisimova 1-6, 7-5, 6-4.
Also in action, Ajla Tomljanovic claimed a hard fought 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 comeback win over 17th seed Marie Bouzkova, in a seesawing battle which lasted two hours and 51 minutes.
Tomljanovic will face American Sloane Stephens in the third round, who defeated eighth seed Madison Keys 6-4, 6-4.
In one of a flurry of upset results, American Lauren Davis downed second seed Sofia Kenin 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Frenchwoman Alize Cornet also claimed an upset win, defeating seventh seed Elise Mertens 7-5, 6-3.
Also on the winners list, Spaniard Paula Badosa knocked out fifth seed Belinda Bencic 6-2, 6-7(2), 6-1.
At the Copa Colsanitas in Bogota, Stefanie Voegele knocked off No. 1 seed Saisai Zheng 6-4, 6-1 to book her spot in the quarterfinals.
On the ATP Tour, Aussie Matthew Ebden was in doubles action at the Sardegna Open in Cagliari, Italy. Ebden and Indian partner Divij Sharan went down to Treat Huey and Frederik Nielsen 1-6, 4-6.
In singles action, Taylor Fritz, Nikoloz Basilashvili, Aljaz Bedene and Jan-Lennard Struff all advanced to the quarterfinals.
In Marbella, at the Andalucia Open, No. 1 seed Pablo Carreno Busta, No. 4 seed Albert Ramos Vinolas, 7th seed Soonwoo Kwon and Norbert Gombos all booked their spots in the quarterfinals.
On the Challenger Tour, Aussie Aleksandar Vukic claimed an impressive 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 upset win over seventh seed Kimmer Coppejans to advance to the quarterfinals, setting up a clash with Blaz Kavcic.
In doubles action, Aussie Matt Reid continued his red hot form on the Challenger Tour, partnering up with Frenchman Albano Olivetti to defeat Aussie pair Alex Bolt and Marc Polmans 7-6(4), 5-7, 11-9.
Crossing over to the ITF World Tour, Seone Mendez advanced to the third round of the ITF Switzerland 01A event with a 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 win over former world no. 60 Çağla Büyükakçay.
In Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, Olivia Gadecki also won, defeating Russian Alana Tuayeva 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. She will face Israeli Lina Glushko in the second round.
In Monastir, Tunisia, Aussie Alexandra Osborne was forced to retire with injury midway through a tight first round clash with Italian Chiara Catini 3-6, 7-6(3), 2-3 ret.
