Out of the Big Three of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, the latter has always been the most polarising to the public and struggles to gain the popularity of his two counterparts.

This week Djokovic turned heads around the world by announcing that he opposes vaccination and that it may affect his return to tennis, stating that he believes that vaccines should not determine whether someone is able to travel or not.

Personally I am opposed to vaccination and I wouldnt want to be forced by someone to take a vaccine in order to be able to travel, the World No.1 said.

But if it becomes compulsory, what will happen? I will have to make a decision. I have my own thoughts about the matter and whether those thoughts will change at some point, I dont know.

The vaccines are designed to prevent the disease from spreading and causing fatalities around the planet, so why is Djokovic against something that benefits the global community? It makes zero sense.

The players are constantly within the social distancing zone at tournaments, whilst the crowds are sitting in the closest of proximities to each other in the stands, not to mention how close to you have to be to others while travelling.

Former French World No.1 Amelie Mauresmo Tweeted this week that the tennis calendar in 2020 should be wiped out until a vaccination becomes available to ensure the safety of all citizens that work at events or attend them, which seems like a reasonable solution.

For some reason, the current Wimbledon and Australian Open title holder cannot understand that these measures are put in place due to a disastrous pandemic.

Yes people are entitled to their opinions on whether to vaccinate or not, we live in a world where freedom of speech is encouraged and practiced, but when this is a global disaster that will leave the global economy in a tough, surely you would be putting your feelings aside.

If the ITF, ATP and WTA are seriously considering compulsory vaccination as a prerequisite for tournament participation and Djokovic refuses to cooperate, the bodies must remain strong and make an example not just out of the World No.1, but anybody else who acts in accordance with him.

It is imperative that global safety is maintained and that Covid-19 causes no more deaths, and if Djokovic refuses to vaccinate, so be it. He cant play, it is as simple as that.

It is a global pandemic, and nobody is above it. The ITF and ATP need to remain strong and restrain him from returning if he should refuse a needle.
