After a tough day on the singles court for our Aussies in action at The Tokyo Olympic Games, both Australian women’s doubles pairs scored impressive victories to reach the quarterfinals.

Out on Court 5, five time Olympian Sam Stosur, together with Olympic debutant Ellen Perez took down Romanian pair Monica Niculescu and Raluca Olaru 7-6(3), 7-5 in a tight clash which lasted one hour and 59 minutes.

6th seeds Ash Barty and Storm Sanders joined Stosur and Perez in the quarters shortly after, defeating Chinese duo YiFan Xu and Zhaoxuan Yang 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 11 minutes.

The wins come on a disappointing day for our Aussies in singles action, with John Millman, Max Purcell and Ajla Tomljanovic all falling in the second round.

James Duckworth will be the only Australian in action on Tuesday, taking on 12th seed Karen Khachanov in the second match on Court 3.
