Australian John Millman has claimed his maiden ATP Tour level title at the Astana Open in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
Millman claimed the title with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Frenchman Adrian Mannarino in the final.
However, it was not all smooth sailing for Millman this week, with the 31 year old saving two match points in his quarterfinal match against Tommy Paul to keep his title hopes alive.
Millman defeated Spaniard Fernando Verdasco 6-3, 6-4 in the second round after having a bye in the opening round.
In the quarterfinals, Millman came from a set behind, 2-5 down in the third and 0-5 in the deciding tiebreaker to claim a mammoth comeback victory over American Tommy Paul, saving two match points for a 6-7(5), 6-4, 7-6(5) victory.
Millman was forced to come from a set behind once again in his semifinal matchup, defeating American Frances Tiafoe 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The title boosts Millman back inside the top 40, sitting at 38 in the live ATP rankings, just five spots shy of his career high 33.
The Aussie will be back in action this upcoming week, taking on Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round of the Rolex Paris Masters.
