Sam Stosur has added to her glittering resume in tennis by winning the WTA 1000 Western and Southern Open in Cincinatti with China's Shuai Zhang.
It is the pairs 3rd title together which includes winning the 2019 Australian Open and today they proved too strong 7-5, 6-3 over 6th seeds Luisa Stefani and Gabriela Dabrowski.
The win is her 27th career title in doubles overall in the twilight of her career at age 37 and she brought up the win in perfect fashion with an ace, as the close friends who hadn't played with each other since February avoided having to go to a match tie break, which they had endured in their four matches previously.
At the Trophy Presentation Stosur said " I missed being out there with you. Thanks for joining up again. You wanted the big trophy and now we have got it"
Stosur became the first Australian woman to win the Cincinatti doubles title since Evonne Goolagong Cawley and Margaret Court paired up to win 49 years ago.
Her ranking was just inside the top 100 coming in to the tournament, but has risen to 57 in the live rankings.
Well played Sam Stosur, a superb week and clutch when it counted most to win the title.
