Hosts Brett Phillips and Sam Groth are optimistic the US Open will go ahead. In this weeks edition of The First Serve, Phillips and Groth discussed the likelihood of the US Open going ahead, and the latest developments suggest the tournament is now in fact likely to go ahead.
Sam Groth revealed world number 1 Novak Djokovic is now preparing to play the tournament, which suggests it is likely to go ahead.
"Andy Murray's probably going to play. The big one is Novak. He's apparently leaning towards playing. He's been practicing on hard court, he's had the US Open balls shipped over to him to be able to play and I think if you see him getting ready to play the US Open it shows you that event is going to go ahead," Groth said.
Brett Phillips opened up some of the finer details that will playnnout to determine whether the tournament can in fact go ahead.
"We certainly believe in the next 48 hours they'll make the absolute final call, but we are confident it looks very optimistic. Player entries have been extended to midday Florida time next Monday.
"The tours and the USTA have a verbal agreement from France that they will wave the quarantine requirements for players and their teams coming in from the US Open. It's expected that once France actually issue this, Spain and other European countries will follow", Phillips said.

Sterry explained the current state of tennis in South Australia and revealed how they have in fact been up and running for several months.
