Nick Kyrgios was forced to retire midway through his first round match at the Mexican Open in Acapulco.
The defending champion retired against Frenchman Ugo Humbert after dropping the first set 3-6 with a wrist injury.
Kyrgios was unimpressed with the reception he got as he left the court. “I literally couldn’t give a ****. I’m not healthy. I tried to come here, I tried to play. I’ve been doing media for the tournament, I’ve been helping out, I tried to play, I tried to give the fans a little bit of tennis and they were disrespectful so I honestly couldn’t give a ****” Kyrgios said.
Fellow Australian John Millman also exited the tournament, falling to Taylor Fritz 5-7, 6-3, 1-6 in a tight encounter.
In Doha, Ash Barty advanced to the quarterfinals. The world number one claimed a 6-3, 6-2 victory over qualifier Laura Siegemund, then a walkover as her third round opponent Elena Rybakina withdrew with a left leg injury.
Ajla Tomljanovic was also in action, falling to 11th seed Garbine Muguruza 1-6, 2-6.
Australians Akira Santillan and Harry Bourchier both exited the Calgary Challenger in Canada. 12th seed Santillan was defeated by world number 462 Nick Chappell 4-6, 7-6(5), 1-6 in the second round. Bourchier lost to qualifier Alex Rybakov 3-6, 6-7(7) in the first round.
At the Columbus Challenger, Aleks Vukic advanced to the third round, claiming a 6-3, 7-6(6) victory over Frenchman Antoine Escoffier. Unfortunately Andrew Harris exited in the second round, defeated by Ecuadorian Roberto Quiroz 6-7(5), 6-4, 1-6.
