It was an extra special occasion for Kasatkina, having recently announced her decision to switch nationality and play under the Australian flag.
"I just couldn’t keep my smile from breaking through," Kasatkina said moments after her win.
"It’s a really special moment for me to win my first match as an Australian player. I’m just really happy and couldn’t believe one day something like that would happen to me.
"Thank you for your support. I got so many messages. So much support. It’s been a tough couple of years. I’m really happy to stand here and feel like this."
She will next face former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin for a spot in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Ajla Tomljanović notched her best win of 2025 after taking down 16th seed Peyton Stearns 6-1 6-4.
A rematch of last month's semi-final at the ATX Open will occur in the round of 16 against top-seed Jessica Pegula, with Tomljanović losing a tight three-set contest in their previous meeting.
