2024 OLYMPICS ANDY MURRAY'S 'LAST EVER TOURNAMENT'

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Andy Murray has announced on social media that the upcoming Paris Games will be his final professional event. The 37-year-old finished top of the podium in London 2012 and Rio 2016 in singles, hoping to make one last deep run over the next fortnight representing Great Britain.

Murray posted the following message to his followers across his social platforms: "Arrived in Paris for my last ever tennis tournament," he wrote.

"Competing for Great Britain have been by far the most memorable weeks of my career and I'm extremely proud to get to do it one final time!"

The decision comes after multiple injuries plagued Murray's ability to consistently perform at the highest level, with the latest setback arriving before Wimbledon earlier this month when he required surgery to remove a cyst in his back. In 2019, he took a seven-month break from the game after undergoing successful hip surgery, playing with a metal hip ever since. An 11-time Grand Slam finalist and three-time champion, Murray will forever be remembered for becoming the first British man in 77 years to claim the Wimbledon singles title in 2012.

Competing in the 'golden era' of men's tennis with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic - Murray will go down as one of the best players of his generation.
