'DON'T SEEM TO GIVE A S**T': THOMPSON HITS OUT AT SCHEDULING FIASCO

Australian Jordan Thompson has lashed out at tournament officials after another scheduling howler somewhat overshadowed a famous victory at the US Open.

The 30-year-old pulled off the biggest win of his Grand Slam career, defeating seventh seed Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets to produce an epic upset.

However, a scheduling mishap occurred, but not for the first time according to Thomspon.

Playing at the same time as compatriot Chris O'Connell who defeated qualifier Mattia Bellucci in four sets, both Aussies share the same coach in former Australian No.1 Marinko Matosevic.

Unfairly forced to make a decision on which match to attend, Matosevic opted to watch O'Connell instead of Thompson, sparking a passionate plea directed at the ATP and tournament organisers to stop ignoring the issue.

"Thank the schedule makers for that one," Thompson said after his win.

"I mean, we have only been working together, and are the only two who have shared a coach, for 20 months, so maybe (Matosevic) should have said it again, but he shouldn't need to say it again.

"Luckily I had Rusty (Llleyton Hewitt) there. It's happened a few times. They just don't seem to give a s**t. We just have to clap the ATP for that one, or whoever makes the schedule.

"It's happened like four or five times. They should be (aware), but it feels like they just don't care."

Thompson will face 30th seed Matteo Arnaldi for a golden opportunity to reach the last 16 and equal his career-best result at a Grand Slam in four years.
