Following a straight-sets defeat in his first-round Roland Garros match, Jordan Thompson revealed the reason why Nick Kyrgios withdrew from participation in Paris.
Thompson, who was preparing to play in the men's doubles draw alongside Kyrgios, said that he only found out last week that his good friend would not be playing.
“A few days before the re-pair opportunity, Nick told me he had done something to his knee, so unfortunately, he couldn't be here," Thompson said in his press conference.
"It’s ironic because he was really pumped. He kept messaging me, 'Are we good for Roland Garros, Are we good for Roland Garros...(I said) 'Yeah, we’re good, we’re good', and then all of a sudden his knee was no good."

Kyrgios did not plan to play singles in Paris, but has already signed up for multiple Wimbledon lead-up events next month, as well as the major itself, where he has not played since reaching the 2022 final.
“He seemed pretty down. He told me he doesn’t know how many more of these injuries he can take," Thompson revealed.
"Just have to feel for him, because as much as he says things in the media, I think he loves playing tennis and being on court, so it’s disappointing that he can’t be.”
We wait to learn the severity of the knee injury for Kyrgios, which could rule out his chances of getting back on court this season, with the Aussie expected to have a scan in the coming days.
For Thompson, barring a positive recovery from his singles clash, he will now play doubles with Jason Kubler, who exited the singles draw in the second round of qualifying.
