She's had to climb her way back up the rankings, but the hard work is now paying off for Belinda Bencic following her latest achievement at Wimbledon.

In October last year, the Swiss talent returned to the WTA Tour after a six-month hiatus due to giving birth to her daughter, Bella.

It was only in January that the former world No.4 was ranked 489th in the world, but her straight-sets triumph over teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva in the Wimbledon quarter-finals ensures a top-20 comeback.

"It's crazy. It's unbelievable. It's a dream come true... Just speechless," Bencic said in the routine on-court interview.

"It's just my second semi-final of a Grand Slam overall and the first one at Wimbledon, so just speechless. So happy."

The 28-year-old, who last made the final four of a major six years ago at the 2019 US Open, has to get past former world No.1 Iga Świątek, with both players bidding to participate in their maiden Wimbledon final.

"(I have) a lot of respect (for Bencic)," said Świątek. "I can only imagine how hard it is to come back after pregnancy.

"I never doubted that she can't come back after pregnancy. She seems like she's in a good mood and she's playing well."

In the other women's semi-final, top-seed Aryna Sabalenka enters unfamiliar territory as she will have to mentally put aside an unfavourable 3-5 head-to-head record against American Amanda Anisimova.
