Just days after cementing his place in the top 200 for the first time in five years, Bernard Tomic has suffered an unwanted setback after tumbling on match point, resulting in retirement.
On Monday, the 32-year-old reached his first Challenger final since October 2024, but lost in three sets to American Zachary Svajda.

The world No.184 recently took part in a Challenger event hosted in Chicago, where a stroke of misfortune struck.
As he led 7-6(3), 5-4 with match point in hand on serve against world No.424 Stefan Dostanic in the first round, Tomic fell awkwardly on the ground as he completely lost his footing. His racquet flew out of his hand as he landed on his back.

He slowly tried to get back up on his feet, and a nearby fan asked if he was okay.

However, Tomic is on track to earn a place in the US Open qualifying draw, with the main draw getting underway on August 25.
