For the first time in four years, Bernard Tomic has won a qualifying match at a Grand Slam.
The 32-year-old only faced one break point on serve against world No.175 Coleman Wong in a routine 7-6(2) 6-3 triumph in the opening round of Roland-Garros qualifying.
Not since Wimbledon 2021 has Tomic tasted victory at a major, falling in the final round of qualifying after two wins.
It was a 32nd birthday to remember for Jason Kubler as he fought tooth and nail against Spaniard Alejandro Moro Cañas to record a 6-4 3-6 6-2 win on Court 4.
The former top-ranked junior is using his protected ranking (No.140) to enter the qualifying stage after continuing to work his way back up after injury troubles.
Maddison Inglis was the only Australian woman successful on Day 1, securing an impressive 6-1 6-1 result over Iryna Shymanovich.
Inglis passed the test in 67 minutes to set up a second-round clash against another Belarusian in 21-year-old Kristina Dmitruk.

The remaining five Aussies in action on Day 1 all bowed out, but none more heartbreaking than Priscilla Hon and Alex Bolt.
Hon squandered a match point in a marathon third-set tiebreak, while Alex Bolt had two match points up 5-3 40-15 on his serve, before collapsing to lose five straight games in the decider.
Other Aussie results: Jana Fett def. Priscilla Hon 6-2 4-6 7-6(10)
Varvara Lepchenko def. Taylah Preston 6-4 7-5
Tereza Valentova def. Arina Rodionova 6-2 6-2
Mathys Erhard def. James McCabe 6-1 6-1
Pablo Llamas Ruiz def. Alex Bolt 4-6 6-4 7-5
Tomic, Kubler, and Inglis will play their second-round qualifying matches on Wednesday night AEST.
