Hearts were in mouths on Centre Court at the WTA 1000 Montreal Open when former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu rolled her ankle on match point.

The Canadian, who has been haunted by countless injury setbacks throughout the past few years, fell to the ground in agony on her second match point against Barbora Krejčíková.

Andreescu, 25, then yelled, "Why does this always happen to me?"

She received a standing ovation from her home faithful after she returned to the court in better spirits, as Krejčíková missed two consecutive shots to hand her opponent a lifeline, surviving 6-3, 6-4.

Andreescu couldn't hold back tears during the on-court interview.

"At the end there, I got very unlucky, but it's very unfortunate what happened obviously. I don't know what to say," an emotional Andreescu told the crowd.

"You guys are everything. I'm super happy I was able to pull through, and it's thanks to you guys."

If the former world No.4 is fit to take the court for her second-round match, teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva stands in her way.
