WILL HE PLAY? NADAL SLAMS 'OUTRAGEOUS' SCHEDULING

14-time Roland Garros champion Rafael Nadal has cast a glimmer of doubt involving his singles appearance at the Paris Games after expressing his frustration about the schedule of play.

Today, the 38-year-old will step out on Court Philippe-Chatrier at 2:00 p.m. (10:00 p.m. AEDT) against Hungary's Márton Fucsovics in the first round.

It comes after Nadal paired with Carlos Alcaraz for Spain in doubles action where the duo claimed a straight sets victory - concluding at 10:00 p.m. for a late finish.

“A 2:00 p.m. game? I don’t understand the schedule,” Nadal told the media after the win. “It seems outrageous to me when I’m playing at two o’clock.

“I don’t know if I’ll play tomorrow. I’ll have to go back to the village and talk to the team, I’ll make the decision that I think is most appropriate to have a chance of getting results for Spain.

“Sometimes less is more.”

Last week, Nadal reached the final of Båstad in Sweden where he spent nearly 10 hours on court - hence the cautious decision the Spaniard will have to make in terms of how far he can push his body physically.

A potential blockbuster second round clash against long-time rival Novak Djokovic is in prospect.
