The 2025 Australian Open will become home to the inaugural Pickleball Slam to accommodate one of the world's fastest-growing sports.
According to the Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA), nearly 14 million people played pickleball in the USA last year — a sport that is booming globally.
From January 24-26, Show Court 3 will be transformed into a pickleball arena, attracting international players and rising stars in a Grand Slam first.
An added incentive includes an A$100,000 prize money pool, demonstrating the enormity and importance of the sport.
"This is a great addition [to] the Australian Open, the sport that makes you happier finding a home at the Happy Slam," said Tennis Australia Chief Tennis Officer Tom Larner.
"Pickleball is a sport for everyone, and its rapid growth globally highlights its unique ability to connect people of all ages and backgrounds. By bringing pickleball to the AO, we’re embracing the future of racquet sports and providing an incredible experience for players and fans alike."
Fans will have the chance to pick up a padel and participate in pickleball across the grounds at Melbourne Park.

The addition of fast-growing sports like pickleball to the AO is such a bold move. It’s exciting to see tennis embracing these new trends, and it shows that sports are always evolving. Just like in gaming, where new genres and platforms keep popping up, sports are finding ways to stay relevant and engaging. It’s like how platforms like rickycasino app stay fresh with regular updates and new games. Do you think this trend of incorporating more diverse sports will continue, or do we risk losing the essence of traditional games?
