Former world No.26 Camila Giorgi has confirmed to fans that she is ready to come out of retirement in 2027, two years after her sudden absence from the tour.

In May 2024, the then 32-year-old walked away from the sport without saying a word, reportedly due to being chased by a taxman in Florence for unpaid taxes. She also wanted to pursue a career in lingerie modelling, which she did in the United States.

However, she has always denied those rumours of tax evasion.

"I didn't disappear, I had to make an announcement in Paris about my withdrawal, then it came out on the anti-doping website that I had retired, and the thing became public," the Italian told Canale 5 at the time.

"We did not flee for tax reasons. I never fled, I never spoke. We did not pay the rent, and we took the furniture? The house had no furniture; we brought it ourselves.

"I wanted to quit for years, being a tennis player is a hard life. I put it off for a long time until, in May, one morning, I decided to do it. I told my father."

Now, Giorgi is currently pregnant with her Argentinian husband and tennis player-turned-coach, Andreas Ignacio Pasutti, after recently moving to Argentina to work on personal projects. Giorgi interacted with her Instagram followers during a Q&A, and confirmed that she is planning to make a comeback to professional tennis.

"Will you come back to tournament tennis in the future?" a fan asked her. Giorgi replied: "Yes, in 2027."

Standing at just 168cm, Giorgi was known for her incredible power and ruthless groundstrokes.

She won four WTA titles before her retirement, with the biggest victory coming in the WTA 1000 Canadian Open in Montreal five years ago.
