Aussie teenager Taylah Preston has advanced to the final of the WTA 125 Puerto Vallarta Open in Mexico with an impressive straight sets victory against No.5 seed María Lourdes Carlé today.
The 18-year-old experienced her breakthrough year in 2023, winning four ITF titles and climbing into the top 200.
Preston raced out of the blocks to claim an early 4-0 lead and never looked back - despite only winning 44 percent of first-serve points to close it out 6-2.
The second set was a similar story due to Preston’s ferocious power from the back of the court - providing her South American opponent little time to react in faster conditions.
Preston capitalised on a 4-1 advantage and saved two out of two break point opportunities - booking her place in tomorrow’s final with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph in one hour and 18 minutes.
The Perth talent has now moved up 39 places to world No.153 in the live rankings - officially reaching a career-high.
Awaiting her in the final is American Mccartney Kessler (LL) who ousted American 7th seed Hailey Baptiste 6-4, 6-4 in the other semi final.
