AUSSIE WOMEN SPLIT THE DAY AT WIMBLEDON QUALIFYING

The schedule had 10 australian women listed on Day 2 of Wimbledon qualifying at Roehampton and at the end of it, half that amount will live on into Round 2 in their quest to be part of the 'big event' next Monday.


Conditions for the large part saw bright sunshine, with a healthy breeze, and plenty of familiar faces within Australian tennis courtside.


To the victors, 21 year old Talia Gibson, our top ranked of the 10 at 126 in the live rankings notched up an impressive first up 6-3, 6-3 win over Spain's Andrea Lazaro Garcia.


Talia was defeated in the final round of qualies this time twelve months ago as she attempts to go on better. Her father Ian who was courtside came and introduced himself and said he was a regular listener to The First Serve. Great to have you listening Ian.


At the same time, 16 year old Emerson Jones at 206 live in her first Wimby qualiying campaign ousted eight seed from Croatia Antonia Ruzic, a scoreboard that read 6-1, 0-6, 6-0. If it wasn't for a second set laps, the Gold Coaster would have been in the showers quick smart. Next up she will face Serbia's Lola Radivojevic at 173 in the rankings


Destanee Aiava at 159 live comning in also advanced with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 victory over Croatia's Petra Marcinko. The 25 year old is in her fifth qualifying campaign, hoping to earn that accreditation into SW19 for the first time. She will face Hungary's Panna Udvardy at 150 in the rankings for a spot in the final round who was too good for another aussie Daria Saville 7-6, 6-1.

Priscilla Hon at 134 live is attempting for a seventh time to reach the Wimbledon main draw. She cleared the first hurdle today with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 win over Elena Pridankina with a next match up against Switzerland's Leonie Kung ranked 100 spots below her.


Rounding out the winners was Arina Rodionova, the oldest of the contingent. The 35 year old is hoping to play in her ninth main draw. First box ticked with a a 6-3, 7-5 win over China's Xinyu Gao. Next will be 15th seed Elsa Jacquemot.


Along with Daria Saville, other casualities included Taylah Preston, Astra Sharma, Lizette Cabrera and a heartbreaker for Maddison Inglis against former world number 14 Petra Martic, having a match point before going down 2-6, 6-3, 6-7(10)
