AUSSIES PRODUCE CONCERNING GRASS RESULTS BEFORE WIMBLEDON

For Australian tennis, Wimbledon is supposed to act as the most favourable Grand Slam outside of home soil, but that trend has been questioned throughout the start of the 2025 grass season.
In the past decade, 27 Aussies have qualified for the SW19 main draw. Ash Barty famously lifted the trophy in 2021, as well as four combined quarter-final appearances between Daria Kasatkina (2018), Ajla Tomljanović (2021, 2022) and Alex de Minaur (2024).
Yet the results produced over the past few weeks have posed a concern.
Aussie men's results at ATP 250/500 level (excluding all-Aussie matches)
Win-Loss 11-18 (10 wins in qualifying) - 37.9 per cent
Aussie women's results at WTA 250/500 level (excluding all-Aussie matches)
Win-loss 10-11 (9 wins in qualifying) - 47.6 per cent
Between the ATP and WTA Tours, Aussie players have combined for just three main draw wins, including an all-Aussie affair between Alexei Popyrin and Aleksandar Vukic in Queen's.
There were a further five all-Aussie matches, all played out in qualifying, which are not included in the numbers above.

Kimberly Birrell and Jordan Thompson claimed the other two main draw wins.
What hasn't helped is Alex de Minaur's drop in form, as he will enter Wimbledon without a grass-court win under his belt for the first time in his career.
World No.16 Daria Kasatkina is also without a win in the lead-up to SW19, suffering back-to-back defeats in Queen's and Berlin. The 28-year-old has one more opportunity to gain much-needed confidence at the upcoming Eastbourne Open.
On the Challenger circuit, Tristan Schoolkate has provided a glimmer of hope thanks to his title at Ilkley last week.
