22-year-old Australian Olivia Gadecki claimed the second top-20 scalp of her career, defeating world No.11 Danielle Collins at the Guadalajara Open in Mexico.
After two rounds of qualifying including a win against Australian compatriot Maya Joint, Gadecki ousted 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens in straight sets before winning by the same scoreline against former Australian Open runner-up Collins.
The 6-3, 6-3 victory ensures the Gold Coast woman will face Italian Martina Trevisan in the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 event.
Her previous top-20 triumph was back in 2021 against another American, Sofia Kenin, ranked world No.4 at the time.
"I'm really proud of myself for giving myself the chance to play another match and play such amazing players and test my abilities," Gadecki said in her on-court interview. "I really look forward to continuing."
Gadecki was assisted by Collins' 35 unforced errors, but 68 per cent of points won behind the second serve of the Australian nullified her opponent to wrap up the contest in 84 minutes.
For the first time, Gadecki has achieved consecutive top-100 wins - an extra layer of confidence heading into the latter stages of the tournament.
Pre-qualification phase, she was ranked No.152 in the world but has since risen 34 places to a career-high No.118 in the live WTA rankings.
