It was only eight months ago when Alcaraz was reduced to tears after losing the Olympic gold medal match to Novak Djokovic in Paris - and this was his first clay tournament since that moment.
Anyone who has watched the Spaniard closely over the past few months would have noticed he hasn't performed to his absolute ability, and he opened up on how recent times have proven to be a challenge mentally.
"It's been a tough month for me, on and off the court," he revealed after his victory. "I don't wanna say in public, but I was struggling stepping on the court. It's been difficult to find a way to not think about everything.
"I’m really happy to win Monte Carlo for the first time. I’m proud with how I dealt with everything.
"Seeing the hard work pay off makes me really happy."
The 21-year-old gains 1000 ranking points to close the gap on world No.1 Jannik Sinner as he prepares to enter the ATP 500 event in Barcelona this week.
