A potential injury concern for defending champion Jannik Sinner has been played down by coach Simone Vagnozzi ahead of the world No.1's highly anticipated US Open final clash against Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner, 24, left the court after dropping the second set to Felix Auger-Aliassime in Saturday's semi-final to receive a three-minute medical timeout.

The four-time Grand Slam winner cited abdominal discomfort during his four-set triumph, but was quick to dismiss any issue.

"Nothing too bad," Sinner confirmed. "I served a bit faster again. It's nothing serious.

"I'm very happy. There are no excuses. Sunday is a very special day. Amazing final again. Let's see what's coming."

His coach, Simone Vagnozzi, who shares coaching responsibilities with Aussie Darren Cahill, shed light on his player's recent injury scare.

"He just had a little abdominal discomfort at one point, but after treatment with the physiotherapist, it's gone away," he told SuperTenis.

"When he came back, he wasn't sure how he was doing in the first few games, so he didn't push. Then he started pushing, and his serve got better and better. I think he's fine for Sunday."

At the Cincinnati Masters final last month, Sinner retired from the match trailing 0-5 against Alcaraz due to illness.

Whoever wins the US Open final will end the tournament ranked No.1 in the world.
