Day 1 of Wimbledon qualifing saw the courts at full capacity surrounded by the maximum number of fans allowed into the Roehampton site down the road from the All England Club, with a contingent of six Aussie men on the schedule to take a look at.
Two hours into the live action getting underway, word filtered through that Jason Kubler had withdrawn, succumbing once again to injury.
The 32 year old had worked his backside off this year (32-8) to get back into Grand Slam qualifing calculations, but that bloody knee, not for the first time, prevented him playing the game he is particuarly good at.
His coach Jarrad Bunt confirming to The First Serve: "Knee not great. Didn't get to play any lead in events on grass. Aggravated it at Roland Garros."
On court, 21-year-old James McCabe, looking to qualifying for his first Wimbledon main draw in his first time at Roehampton, defeated Croatia's Borna Gojo in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to set up a second-round showdown with Argentine 21st seed Roman Burrechaga.

Eleven years the senior of McCabe, Alex Bolt who has played in three Wimbledon main draws, was also a straight sets winner defeating Frechman Harold Mayot 6-3, 6-4 to advance to a second-round match up with 10th seed Eliot Spizzirri. It was the South Australian's 94th pro win on a clay court at all levels.
Li Tu, 29, cleared the first hurdle in his attempt to get an accreditation around his neck for next week defeating Colombian fourth seed Daniel Elahi Galan 6-3, 6-2 in an impressive display and will now face Japan's Sho Shimabukuro.
To round out the Aussie winners on Day 1, second seed Tristan Schoolkate played some magnificent grass court tennis to come from a set down to oust Argentine Facundo Díaz Acostsa 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-3. Next will be Lebanon's Benjamin Hassan.
The only Aussie casualty was Omar Jasika who was outplayed by Czech Dalibor Svrcina 6-1, 6-2.
Tuesday here in London will see the women take to court, with 10 Australian women to feature led by Talia Gibson.
