It would be fair to say that it has been lean pickings for Australian tennis players in the week leading up to the main draw of the French Open.

With the second major of the year fast approaching, qualifying lists for Roland Garros have been released, with the cut-off determined by the latest weekly rankings released on Monday.

From an Aussie perspective, on the men's side, Tristan Schoolkate, Adam Walton, Dane Sweeny, Chris O'Connell, Alex Bolt and Bernard Tomic will look to earn their right to compete in the main draw.

On the women's side, Emerson Jones, Priscilla Hon, Maddison Inglis, Taylah Preston, Storm Hunter and Olivia Gadecki will also try to win three matches to take their place in the big dance starting May 24.

Rewind 12 months ago, it was only Daria Saville out of all the Aussies combined who qualified, while in 2024 none progressed, and in 2023 it was just Storm Hunter winning all three matches.

In the next couple of weeks, from the above names, two Aussies (one man, one woman) will be announced as recipients of the reciprocal wildcards on offer under the arrangement in place since 2001 between Tennis Australia and the French Tennis Federation.

As confirmed a couple of weeks ago, Alex de Minaur, Alexei Popyrin, James Duckworth, Aleksandar Vukic, and Rinky Hijikata are confirmed main draw starters on the men's side, with Maya Joint, Talia Gibson, Daria Kasatkina, Kim Birrell and Ajla Tomljanovic to feature on the women's side.

The standout international name to have to go through qualifying this year is former world No.3 Grigor Dimitrov, who sits at 168 in the live rankings with a 2-10 record in 2026 in his return from injury.

In the women's section, former semi-finalist Martina Trevisan is using a special ranking of No.127 to enter qualifying after a tough couple of years with injuries and form. Meanwhile, 2018 finalist Sloane Stephens, using a special ranking of No.129, will take her place in qualifying.
