LIZETTE CABRERA BREAKS 18-MONTH TITLE DROUGHT IN LAUNCESTON

An 18-month title wait is over after Australia's Lizette Cabrera won the ITF W35 event in Launceston.

Cabrera, who achieved a career-high world No.119 in February 2020, defeated Japan's Sakura Hosogi 7-5 6-2.

Despite dropping serve at 5-1 to seal the match in set two, it was third-time lucky for Cabrera, who lost her previous two meetings against Hosogi.

The 27-year-old last won a title in June 2023 at an ITF W25 event in Zaragoza, Spain.

Born in Townsville, the win added an eight-career title to Cabrera's collection.

She dropped one set for the entire week before lifting the title, which moves her to No.282 in the live WTA rankings.
