Australian tennis legend and Billie Jean King Cup captain Samantha Stosur has praised teenage talent Maya Joint, revealing her "great quality".

Joint, 19, burst onto the scene at last year's US Open by qualifying for her first Grand Slam main draw, in which she secured a first-round victory.

She has continued to improve and develop in 2025, rewarded with a rise to world No.74 in the live rankings after appearing in back-to-back WTA 1000 main draws.

Throughout Australia's Billie Jean King Cup Finals campaign in November, Joint was selected by Stosur as an Orange Girl — a role designated to an up-and-coming player who can train with the team and immerse themselves in new experiences.

Stosur appeared on 'The Tennis' podcast as she acknowledged Joint's work ethic, which sparked a significant impression.

"She will not let a ball go past her on the practice, whether it's in by a [small margin] or out by a metre. She will run for everything," Stosur said.

"Her movement still needs to get a bit better. She's still young [and] still developing, but she's putting that to practice every single day.

"The first session we had, she was absolutely gassing with her breath, and I think she was a bit nervous, but she ran for every single ball and did not let anything go past her and I was like, 'That is such a great quality to have'."

Australian doubles legend Todd Woodbridge also featured on the podcast, and he correlated Joint's court coverage and speed with Alex de Minaur.

Recently, Joint bowed out of the Italian Open to former US Open champion Emma Raducanu in three sets.
