A new face is guaranteed to lift the women's championship at Wimbledon following the elimination of Barbora Krejčíková, who received swift medical attention.

The Czech star arrived at the All England Club as the reigning champion, but despite a set to the good, she was overrun by American Emma Navarro 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the third-round on Court 1.

Krejčíková couldn't hide her tears in the latter stages of the match, as she required a medical timeout to have her blood pressure and vitals checked.

The 29-year-old grimaced multiple times as she bent over in noticeable discomfort, with cheers from the crowd heard in the stands before she served to stay in the match.

"I was definitely enjoying myself, and I was feeling quite well. Suddenly, out of nowhere, I just lost all my energy, and I couldn't really gain it back," said the 17th-seed.

"First of all, I thought that it was the food, that I ate too early. That's why I started with all the bananas and all the sugars and stuff inside.

"But I wasn't really feeling better, I was actually feeling worse and worse with time. It's very sad for me and very unfortunate."

She has battled through multiple injuries in 2025, with her recent setback coming at the Eastbourne Open over a week ago when a thigh injury prevented her from taking the court in what would've been a quarter-final against Varvara Gracheva.

The straight-sets loss suffered by 2022 champion Elena Rybakina means all 16 women remaining in the singles draw are vying for their first Wimbledon title.

Navarro, who famously upset compatriot Coco Gauff in the fourth-round last year, has the chance to produce another upset against teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva.
