Rune, Shapovalov and Tomljanović set for 2027 Kooyong Classic

Danish star Holger Rune, Canada's Denis Shapovalov and Australia's own Ajla Tomljanović are the latest players confirmed for the 2027 Kooyong Classic, returning to Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club from 12–14 January.

The trio adds further international experience and Australian interest to the tournament, with all three set to compete in the lead-up to the Australian Open.

Former World No. 4 Rune returns to Kooyong having previously competed at the Classic in 2024. The 23-year-old Dane has claimed five ATP Tour titles, including the Paris Masters in 2022, and will make his return to the Australian summer following an extended injury layoff.

Shapovalov will also return to the Classic following his appearance in 2026. The former World No. 10 has reached a Wimbledon semi-final and claimed four ATP Tour titles, including victories in Dallas and Los Cabos in 2025.

Meanwhile, Tomljanović returns to Kooyong having claimed the women's title at her last appearance at the tournament in 2020. The Australian has since reached a career-high ranking of World No. 32 and three Grand Slam quarterfinals, including back-to-back appearances in the last eight at Wimbledon in 2021 and 2022. 

Kooyong Classic Tournament Director Peter Johnston welcomed the latest additions to the 2027 field.

"It's great to welcome Holger, Denis and Ajla back to Kooyong," Johnston said.

"All three have played here previously, and it's particularly pleasing to have Ajla returning as our 2020 champion.

"With the Australian Open just around the corner, Kooyong provides a great opportunity for players to get some competitive tennis under their belts, while giving fans the chance to see some of the world's best players up close."

The trio joins defending champion Karen Khachanov, Lorenzo Musetti, Matteo Berrettini, Arthur Fils, Learner Tien, Paula Badosa and Nick Kyrgios in the 2027 field, with further player announcements to come.

The 2027 Kooyong Classic takes place from 12–14 January 2027 at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club.
