Serena Williams has brushed off speculation that she is planning a return to tennis in 2026, despite a clear sign that suggests otherwise.
The 44-year-old, who bid farewell to professional tennis at the 2022 US Open, is regarded by many as the greatest female player of all time with 24 Grand Slam singles titles.

On Wednesday, a storm erupted on social media after reports that Williams had reentered the sport's drug testing pool, which would give her the chance to compete on the tour after six months of testing.
However, the American legend was quick to put out the fire, posting on X: "Omg yall I'm NOT coming back. This wildfire is crazy."

In a statement sent to The Associated Press, US Tennis Association (USTA) spokesman Brendan McIntyre said: "We are aware that Serena has filed the necessary paperwork with the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) to reenter the International Registered Testing Pool. If Serena decides to return and compete at the professional level, together with her fans, we will enthusiastically welcome the return of one of the greatest champions in the history of our sport."
ITIA spokesperson Adrian Bassett confirmed that the reports are "correct".
If Williams were to make a comeback, then Wimbledon would be the first Grand Slam she would be eligible to enter, before potentially headlining the US Open in August-September.
Her sister, Venus, is still competing on the WTA Tour at 45, as the famous duo could team up together for a doubles reunion.
