CONFIRMED: AUSTRALIA TEAM SELECTED FOR BILLIE JEAN KING CUP FINALS

Australia team captain Sam Stosur has unveiled the four women who will represent the green and gold at the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in November.

The tournament will be held in Malaga between November 13-20, as Olivia Gadecki, Ajla Tomljanvović, Daria Saville, and Ellen Perez will compete.

Earlier in April, the Aussies defeated Mexico 4-0 to secure qualification. But Arina Rodionova and 18-year-old Taylah Preston, who featured in the tie, will not travel to Spain.

It will mark Stosur's first Billie Jean King Cup Finals event as captain since taking over the reins from former world No.8 Alicia Molik last November.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be back representing Australia in the green and gold. It’s always such an honour, and this group is ready to give their all against the world’s best nations,” Stosur said.

“We’ve been in the mix at the top of the Billie Jean King Cup in recent years. After reaching the final in 2019 and 2022, we know what it takes, and we want to get back there and push for that next step.

“Our team has a solid mix of experience and emerging talent. Olivia making her top-100 debut and Ellen as world No.10 in doubles puts us in great stead. We’re ready to play our best tennis and do Australia proud.”

22-year-old rising star Olivia Gadecki has experienced a phenomenal climb in the past week, reaching her maiden WTA 500 final in Guadalajara to jump 64 places in the rankings to a career-high No.88.

As a result, Gadecki is officially the top-ranked Australian female.

“Being in the top-100 has been a massive goal of mine since I was very young, and to now be in that range is incredible,” Gadecki said.

“It really means so much to be selected to represent Australia again.

“I’m looking forward to spending time with the girls and being out there as a team. Most importantly, I’m looking forward to being back playing really good tennis and leaving it all out on the court.

“I think we can really do some damage.”

The new knockout format introduced for this year's edition will see Australia take advantage of a bye to automatically reach the quarter-finals, where they will meet either the USA or Slovakia on Sunday November 17.
