TU CLAIMS SIXTH PRO TITLE, MOVES TO CAREER HIGH RANKING

[Q] Li Tu (AUS) def Colin Sinclair (USA) 6-4, 3-6, 6-3

Li Tu has capped off a brilliant week of tennis by claiming his 6th ITF title in Cairo, Egypt.

Tu was forced to come through qualifying but did so in dominant fashion, dropping just four games in two matches on his way to the main draw. That form then continued on as the 25-year-old won each of his next four matches in straight sets, before triumphing in a tight three set final.

Tu, who previously retired from the sport in 2014 to instead focus on coaching, is continuing a resounding comeback to professional tennis since his return in 2020.

He has now claimed all six of his career singles titles in the past ten months, including the most recent three at ITF 25K level and now a maiden title on clay.

The Founder of L2 Tennis Academy in Adelaide is also making a rapid rise up the ATP rankings. After being unranked in August last year, Tu jumped up to No. 521 at the start of 2022 and has since moved to a career high live ranking of 340.

On the back of his recent success, Tu is expected to make a long-awaited return to the ATP Challenger tour over the coming weeks. He has previously contested just one match at Challenger level, which came back in 2014 against current World Number 3 Alexander Zverev.

The 25-year-old will head to Tunisia to play in a Monastir ITF event - the place where Tu won his first three ITF titles - before contesting the Challenger event there as he looks to continue building on his ATP ranking.
