Confusion and uncertainty about the US Open mixed doubles entrants have been laid to rest, as the official draw confirms 16 pairings for the revamped event.

Eight direct entry pairings based on combined singles rankings and eight wildcards make up the field, with the winners in line to take home A$1.53 million.

Unlike traditional mixed doubles tournaments at Slams, matches will be best-of-three sets to four games, as well as sudden-death deuces at 40-40 and a match tiebreak to 10 points (win by two) instead of a full third set.

However, the final will be contested to six games in each set instead of four.

"I could not be more excited to introduce this groundbreaking innovation to the 2025 US Open Championships," USTA executive director and CEO Lew Sherr said in February.

"We'll be scheduling mixed doubles on the centre stage and enabling more fans worldwide to enjoy the thrill of watching their favourite stars compete for this coveted Grand Slam Championship title.

"One of the primary reasons the US Open is among the premier sports events in the world is because it features the best athletes, both male and female, competing on an equal stage. By giving the competition its own spotlight, we’re elevating mixed doubles to put an even greater focus on the incredible talent we have across the sport."

Just days out from the tournament, late withdrawals of Emma Navarro, Paula Badosa and Tommy Paul were announced, leaving world No.1 Jannik Sinner without a partner due to Navarro's absence.

Instead, Sinner will play as a wildcard alongside doubles specialist Kateřina Siniaková.

Top-ranked women's player Aryna Sabalenka will also sit out, with her original partner, Grigor Dimitrov, recently undergoing pectoral surgery.

Last year's US Open singles finalist Jessica Pegula and world No.5 Jack Draper are the top seeds, with partnerships of Carlos Alcaraz/Emma Raducanu, Novak Djokovic/Olga Danilović and Daniil Medvedev/Mirra Andreeva sure to excite fans.

Venus Williams, who also received a singles wildcard, will feature at 45 years of age as she partners fellow American Reilly Opelka.

There are no Australians in the mixed doubles main draw, with Alex de Minaur and fiancée Katie Boulter missing out on a wildcard.

All matches throughout the two-day event are scheduled during the day sessions, as the tournament commences at 1am, Wednesday August 20 AEST.
