Sydney’s Aleks Vukic has crashed out of the Australian Open after losing to Moldovan Radu Albot in the second round.

The Aussie fell back to earth after the highs of his opening-round victory against world No. 33 Lloyd Harris, falling to a 4-6, 6-7(4), 4-6 defeat in two hours and 16 minutes on Show Court 3.

It’s bitterly disappointing fo Vukic who was right in the match for the duration but lost his head in the pivotal moments to hand Albot the upper hand.

In fact, the match was played entirely off Vukic’s racquet. The Aussie hit 35 winners (11 aces) but let himself down with 44 unforced errors. Comparatively, Albot hit 22 winners and 28 unforced errors, doing enough to win the match.

In the end, Vukic won eight points less than Albot for the entire match - his error count ultimately costing him.

Albot will play the winner of John Millman and Alex Zverev in the third round.
