WALTON WINS SECOND STRAIGHT PRO TITLE




Adam Walton (AUS) def Fernando Yamacita (BRA) 6-4, 6-1


Adam Walton has continued his successful run of form, winning his second consecutive ITF title in North America.


The Australian initially claimed his maiden professional singles title last week, backing up to make it two in as many weeks.


Walton, who recently concluded his acclaimed college career at Tennessee, has just recently turned his focus to the pro tour and is reaping instant rewards.


The 23-year-old did not drop a set for the entire week, including a 6-0, 6-1 drubbing of 3rd seed Tomas Farjat.


Walton has now won twelve matches in fourteen days and will rise inside the ATP top 700 for the first time once his points have been awarded.


Alexandra Bozovic (AUS) def by [8] Rosa Vicens Mas (ESP) 6-4, 6-1


23-year-old Australian Alexandra Bozovic reached her third ITF singles final and first since 2018 at the 25K event in Guimaraes, Portugal.


Bozovic won four matches on her way to the final, dropping just the one set, which came in a tight quarterfinal victory.


The Australian, who had been away from the pro tour for a few months, returned last week and is since 5-2 over the past fortnight.


On the back of her successful week, Bozovic will rise back inside the WTA top 400 for the first time since January 2019, when her points are added next week.


Doubles:


Aussie Andrew Harris teamed up with Frenchman Enzo Couacaud to claim the Georgia’s ATP Challenger title in Rome.


Harris and Couacoud entered the draw as the 3rd seeds and ultimately won the title without dropping a set, including a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the final.


It is Harris’ third career ATP Challenger doubles title and second of the season, taking his live doubles ranking up to a career-high 208.



Challenger Tour Singles Wrap:


Verona, Italy


[Q] Francesco Maestrelli (ITA) def [1] Pedro Cachin (ARG) 3-6, 6-3, 6-0


Italian Francesco Maestrelli has come through qualifying and won seven matches in seven days to claim his maiden ATP Challenger title.


In front of a packed-out, local crowd in Italy, Maestrelli came from behind to defeat world number 98 Pedro Cachin.


The Italian will make his ATP top 300 debut this week, at number 237.


Rome, Italy


Yibing Wu (CHI) def [Q] Ben Shelton (USA) 7-5, 6-3


22-year-old Yibing Wu is enjoying the most successful month of his tennis career, taking home his second ATP Challenger title in six weeks.


Wu’s ranking will now jump up to a career-high 233, having been outside the ATP top 600 in June.


Iasi, Romania


[8] Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves (BRA) def [2] Pablo Andujar (ESP) 6-3, 4-6, 6-2


Felipe Alves has claimed his second career ATP Challenger title, overcoming world number 105 Pablo Andujar in the final.


The victory will propel Alves into the ATP top 150 for the first time in his career.


Amersfoort, Netherlands


[1] Tallon Griekspoor (NLD) def [2] Roberto Carballes Baena (ESP) 6-1, 6-2


Tallon Griekspoor returned to ATP Challenger level this week for the first time in 2022 and managed to lift another title.


Griekspoor won a remarkable eight Challenger titles in 2021 to boost himself inside the ATP top 100, where he currently sits at a career-high number 47.
