2021 Olympic Gold Medalist Alexander Zverev has led Germany to a 2-1 QF tie win over Greece.
Zverev was very impressive in both his singles win over Stefanos Tsitsipas and when he teamed up with doubles specialist Laura Siegmund in the deciding mixed doubles.
He came to Germany's rescue as his nation were trailing 1-0 in the tie.
That was courtesy of World Number 8 Maria Sakkari’s demolition of Angelique Kerber in the first singles match.
Sakkari was brutal in the straight sets display, only losing 3 games throughout the entire match.
Zverev then faced Tsitsipas in what promised to be a classic.
Considering he had lost three out of the last four matches against Stef, it was not going to be straight-forward.
He got the job done however, beating Tsitsipas in the men's singles match with a brutal display of serving 6-4 6-4.
Post match, Zverev admitted he had to change his tactics against the Greek due to the recent form line.
He said “I had to come out aggressive. I knew that. He is one of the best, maybe the best aggressive players in the game. If he’s on the front foot, it’s extremely difficult to play against him.”
Zverev then backed up for the deciding mixed doubles with Laura Siegmund and played a major part.
The Germans were able to win the match and tie in straight sets over Petros Tsitsipas and Sakkari.
They play Australia tonight in the second semi final with the winner moving on to the final tomorrow.
The tie between Australia and Germany will get underway from about 5:30pm AEDT.
