AUSSIE DOUBLES ACTION ON DAY SIX AT FLUSHING MEADOWS



There were eight Aussies in doubles action on day six at Flushing Meadows.


The Special K’s - Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis booked their place in the third round of the men’s doubles draw with a 6-4, 7-6(3) victory over Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka and Sweden’s Andre Goransson.


The M&M’s - Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell claimed a 6-2, 6-2 victory over American pair Robert Galloway and Alex Lawson, advancing to the third round in the men’s doubles draw.


Ebden returned to the court later in the day, partnering with fellow Australian Sam Stosur in the mixed doubles. The Aussie duo knocked out American pair - No. 5 seeds Jessica Pegula and Austin Krajicek 7-6(4), 6-4 to move into the quarterfinals.


Aussie Storm Sanders and American partner Caroline Dolehide got through a tight battle, prevailing in three sets to advance to the third round in women’s doubles action.


Also in women’s doubles action - after their big win in the first round, Daria Saville and Canada’s Leylah Fernandez were unable to back it up in round two, going down to Dalma Galfi and Bernarda Pera in a nail biting contest which ended in a super tiebreaker.


Ellen Perez and Kiwi Michale Venus exited in the second round of mixed doubles.
