Back-to-back as Joint ticks another first in Cincinnati

In the blazing Saturday afternoon Cincinnati heat, 19-year-old Aussie Maya Joint achieved a new milestone.


She defeated 18th-seeded Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, just shy of the three-hour mark. Joint achieved back-to-back WTA 1000 wins for the first time in career to move into the round of 32.

Joint proved much more effective on her first serve, landing 70 per cent compared with just 55 per cent for her Brazilian opponent.
