Australia team captain Lleyton Hewitt has selected Alex de Minaur for the upcoming Davis Cup Finals in Málaga after a last-minute decision.
De Minaur was originally left out of the five-man squad in September due to uncertainty surrounding a torn cartilage in his hip suffered at Wimbledon.
After an intense practice session with Spain's Rafael Nadal, Hewitt has backed the 25-year-old Aussie to help the green and gold win silverware.
As a result, de Minaur will replace Max Purcell and join Alexei Popyrin, Jordan Thompson, Thanasi Kokkinakis and doubles specialist Matthew Ebden.
Hewitt's men will face a star-studded USA in the last-eight, where it’s expected de Minaur will tackle world No.4 Taylor Fritz and Popyrin will play world No.12 Tommy Paul in singles action.
Fritz trails the head-to-head 4-5 against de Minaur, but the American secured a come-from-behind victory against the two-time Newcombe medalist at last week's Nitto ATP Finals in Turin.
Australia's quarter-final commences Thursday at 8pm AEDT to be broadcast live on 9Gem and 9Now - accompanied by commentary featuring The First Serve host Brett Phillips and former world No.4 Jelena Dokic.
