Alex de Minaur has made it three consecutive wins in Washington to advance to Saturday's semi finals of the ATP 500, taking down American world No.32 Brandon Nakashima 6-4, 6-4 in a lightning-interrupted quarter-final.
Despite six breaks of serve in the match, the 26-year-old was able to navigate his way through the pressure moments superbly and set up a meeting with French lucky loser Corentin Moutet, who stunned Daniil Medvedev in three sets when the sun was at its hottest.

The other Aussie out on court today was JP Smith. He and doubles partner Neal Skupski were pipped in a tight doubles quarter final 6-3, 4-6, 7-10 by Kiwi Michael Venus and India's Yuki Bhambri.
