DEMON SKIPS CINCINNATI, TOP 10 AT RISK

Further bad news keeps piling on for Australia's Alex de Minaur after being forced to withdraw from the Cincinnati Masters due to an ongoing hip injury. The 25-year-old suffered a nasty cartilage tear in his hip during the final stages of his Wimbledon fourth round clash, before pulling the plug on his campaign - opting not to step out on court against Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals. Although he secured a ticket to the Paris Games, de Minaur withdrew from the singles event with the issue still lingering despite partnering Alexei Popyrin in doubles action for the green and gold. In that straight-sets defeat, the Sydneysider was moving gingerly, clearly still impacted by the injury. His name has not been included in the Cincinnati entry list to join reigning champion Djokovic to miss one of the biggest tournaments of the North American swing.

A deep run at this week's Montreal Masters for Taylor Fritz will see the American leapfrog de Minaur in the top 10. The Aussie is unable to defend his 750 ranking points accumulated from reaching the Los Cabos and Montreal finals last year. Having achieved a career-high ranking of No.6 after his Wimbledon run last month, de Minaur is still expected to enter the last Grand Slam of the year in New York. However, it remains unlikely that he will earn a top 10 seed at the event - currently sitting in 10th position on the live ATP rankings. Former world No.8 Janko Tipsarević posted a photo on Instagram alongside de Minaur and rising star Amir Omarkhanov at a training facility in Belgrade, as the dual Newcombe medalist continues his recovery.
