EMOTIONAL GADECKI CONTINUES DREAM RUN; ONE WIN AWAY FROM TOP-100

Guadalajara Open qualifier Olivia Gadecki continues her dream run at the WTA 500 event, achieving a sensational semi-final birth.

The 22-year-old defeated world No.86 and former French Open semi-finalist Martina Trevisan 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

Both players won a low percentage of points on second serve, Gadecki (40 per cent) and Trevisan (25 per cent), which saw a combined 13 breaks of serve, including eight from the rising Australian talent.

An unforced error from Trevisan on Gadecki’s match point ensured the girl from the Gold Coast could not contain her excitement and beaming smile - experiencing the best week of her young career.

The result marks Gadecki’s third straight top-100 win, two days after claiming her second-ever top-20 victory against world No.11 Danielle Collins.

“There’s a lot of things I’m proud of this week,” said Gadecki. “Just coming out here competing [and] giving myself the best chance to do well this week. All round I’m really proud of myself.”

Gadecki has not been back in her home country in more than eight months and provided a message to her family.

“I miss them very much, but it’s not too long until I’m back home,” she said.

Gadecki awaits world No.61 Colombian Camila Osorio in the semi-finals, as two seeds remain in the other half of the draw comprising fourth seed Caroline Garcia and fifth seed Magdalena Fręch.

The Australian moves up to a career-high No.103 in the WTA live rankings, one win shy of cracking into the top-100 for the first time.

If Gadecki wins the tournament, she is projected to soar towards a top-60 ranking.
