Former world No.2 Goran Ivanišević has stressed that Stefanos Tsitsipas is "too good a player" to be in a continual slump, as the pair begin their player-coach relationship.

Ivanišević, a previous coach of Novak Djokovic and Elena Rybakina, was spotted training on the grass with Tsitsipas ahead of the Halle Open in Germany.

For the first time since August 2018, the Greek star fell out of the world's top-20 after being dumped out of the second-round at Roland-Garros.

The 26-year-old has the experience behind him with two Grand Slam finals to his name, but Ivanišević has warned that it will take time before he reaches those same heights.

"I am not Harry Potter, and I will not change everything overnight with a wand," the 2001 Wimbledon champion told Punto de Break.

"But, of course, if he works and there is cooperation as there should be, the results will come, both with me and without me. He is too good a player to be where he is, to play the way he is playing at the moment."

After a long run of inconsistent results which have seen him plummet down the rankings, Tsitsipas touched on his new working relationship with the Croatian great.

"We have already started working together and I am learning a lot every day," he said in an interview with Tennis Channel DE.

"He also has a wealth of experience in his career, both as a coach and as a player. That's why I try to learn as much as possible from him."

Tsitsipas is yet to surpass the fourth-round of Wimbledon on two occasions in 2018 and 2023.
