'IT'S ACTUALLY REMARKABLE': HABIB ATTRACTS LEGION OF LEBANESE SUPPORT

Lebanese fans flocked to Court 3 as early as James Duckworth’s match against Spain’s Roberto Carballés Baena began today, in an attempt to secure a seat for Hady Habib’s match against 14th-seed Frenchman Ugo Humbert.

Habib’s fairytale run through qualifying and the first-round has engaged the Lebanese diaspora in Australia to passionately support his Australian Open campaign.

Fans waiting in lines outside Court 3 today expressed their amazement and awe at Habib’s success.

"It’s actually remarkable to see one of my fellow countrymen make it this far in a Grand Slam," one fan said.

Spectators further commented that they were extremely excited to be courtside and support Habib as he played, raising the Lebanese flag as they rushed into the stands.

Habib won not only his first Grand Slam main draw match, but also Lebanon's first-ever Grand Slam match when he defeated China’s Yunchaokete Bu 7-6(4) 6-4 7-6(6) on Sunday. After the victory, he commented on how special the moment was for him and Lebanese tennis.

"It's such an incredible feeling to get this win not only for myself but for Lebanon and Lebanese tennis," the 26-year-old said.

"As you guys could see there, the crowd was absolutely wild.

"It made it even more special to win in front of them."

The atmosphere on Court 3 is palpable as the Lebanese fans prepare to cheer Habib on as soon as Duckworth and Carballés Baena conclude.
