Nick Kyrgios has criticised the BBC's decision not to hire him again for Wimbledon commentary duties, stating that "it's probably their loss more than mine".

The 2022 runner-up was part of the British broadcaster's team for last year's Slam at the All England Club, but it was met with disapproval by some fans and politicians.

"The BBC should hang its head in shame at this appointment," said Conservative MP Caroline Nokes. "It's a disgrace and shows the utter contempt our national broadcaster has towards women.

"Not content with consistently underpaying their own female staff and forcing out women once they hit a certain age, they now bring a man who admitted assaulting a woman on board for Wimbledon."

That response was in relation to Kyrgios' legal battle after assault charges were dropped concerning ex-girlfriend Chiara Passari.

Kyrgios, 30, confirmed earlier this month that a "small" injury setback will force him to skip Wimbledon for the third consecutive year.

Scheduled to host a live performance of his podcast, Good Trouble, at the New Wimbledon Theatre on June 24, the Aussie didn't hold back when asked about his commentary snub.

"I know I'm a great commentator. All I've done for 20 years is play, study and breathe this sport. I also think tennis needs commentators who say things that not everyone says," Kyrgios told the Guardian.

"It's unfortunate, but it's probably their loss more than mine," he said.

"I understand they've got Chris Eubanks, but he hasn't beaten the greatest of all time multiple times.

"When someone's beaten Federer, Nadal, Murray and Djokovic and has incredible insights, it's very strange you wouldn't want that person adding knowledge to tennis fans.

"I'm sure our paths will cross again. I only ever want to add humour, some knowledge and some great atmosphere."

He is also convinced that he will feature at the US Open and the lead-up events.

"I'm definitely playing the US swing, and I'll take it one day at a time."
