REMORSEFUL NISHIKORI APOLOGISES FOR CHEATING ON WIFE, WITHDRAWS FROM WIMBLEDON

Remember Kei Nishikori? Well, the 2014 US Open finalist has issued an unforeseen apology after being caught cheating on his wife with a 32-year-old model.

Nishikori, 35, has been cruelled by injuries for the best part of his career, having last featured at the Geneva Open at the end of May, where he retired mid-match against Karen Khachanov.

A meeting was set with Carlos Alcaraz for the opening round at Roland-Garros, before Nishikori pulled the pin, and is also sitting out of the upcoming Wimbledon Championships.

Off-court, he has also had to deal with unwanted attention, admitting to cheating on his wife of five years, ex-model Mai Yamaguchi.

According to Japanese tabloid Shukan Bunshun, photographs exposed the Japanese star as he was seen visiting model Azuki Oguchi's apartment.

"I deeply apologise for causing discomfort to everyone who supports me; tennis fans, tennis associations, sponsors, and other related parties, and for their concern and inconvenience due to my dishonest behaviour," Nishikori said.

"In addition, I deeply regret that I made my wife, children, and each 'parent' feel hurt.

"From now on, in order to fulfill my life as a responsible member of society, I will solely focus on tennis competitions and produce results. We will do our best to regain your trust."

The outlet also reported that the pair met up only days before Nishikori's wedding in 2022.

Nishikori achieved a career-high ranking of No. 4 in 2015 and is the only Japanese man in the Open era to be ranked in the world's top-five.
