In the same week that former Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard hung up the racquet, Canadian tennis has a new star on the rise.

18-year-old Victoria Mboko produced lights-out tennis to dispatch two-time Slam winner Coco Gauff 6-1, 6-4 in 62 minutes, earning her place in Montreal's last eight.

"Thank you, you helped me so much," an ecstatic Mboko told the crowd in French.

"It's incredible. I'm so happy to beat such a great champion."

At the start of 2025, Mboko was ranked outside of the world's top 300, but is now sitting at a career-high No.55 in the live rankings.

She is the youngest woman to qualify for the quarter-finals at the National Bank Open since Gauff three years ago.

Spain's Jessica Bouzas Maneiro is next in line to try and spoil the Canadian party, where Mboko seeks her maiden WTA 1000 semi-final.
