'EXCITED' DE MINAUR CONFIRMS US OPEN APPEARANCE

World No.10 Alex de Minaur has confirmed he will be ready to step out on court for the final Grand Slam of the year in New York at the end of August.

In what has been a splendid 2024 for the 25-year-old after reaching back-to-back quarter-finals at the French Open and Wimbledon as well as achieving a career-high ranking of No.6, the Aussie's fitness woes over the past few weeks could not have arrived at a worse moment.

During match point of his fourth round clash against Frenchman Arthur Fils at the All England Club, de Minaur pulled up gingerly in what was later confirmed as a cartilage tear in his hip, forcing him to prematurely withdraw before his clash against Novak Djokovic in the last eight.

The freak injury derailed his debut at the Paris Olympics as he pulled out of the singles event to focus on doubles action with good friend and new Masters 1000 champion Alexei Popyrin. Posting a photo of himself on the practice courts of Monte-Carlo on social media, de Minaur provided the feel-good news that all Australians were desperate for.

"Little update. Been working hard trying to recover from my injury," wrote the two-time Newcombe medalist on his socials.

"It's been very tough missing tournaments and excited to say I'll be playing US Open. Thanks to all the support I've gotten, it's definitely helped me through these tough times. There's always light at the end of the tunnel."

The Olympian is at risk of losing out on a top 10 seeding at Flushing Meadows after opting to skip the Cincinnati Masters - only 60 points ahead of Stefanos Tsitsipas in the live rankings.
