World No.2 Iga Świątek is contemplating a stint on the sidelines to regroup following a long period of underwhelming form, according to Polish news outlet Przegląd Sportowy.
It comes after the five-time major champion bowed out 6-1 6-1 at the hands of America's Coco Gauff in the semi-finals of the Madrid Open, causing Świątek to shed tears during the change of ends midway through the second set.
The report claims that the 23-year-old superstar is planning to skip the grass season altogether, with one factor being that she doesn't have many ranking points to lose, given she only lost in the third-round of Wimbledon last year. She will then return for the American hardcourt swing in preparation for Flushing Meadows.

Świątek will make the trip to Rome for the final WTA 1000 event on clay in 2025, in one final push to gain much-needed confidence heading into her favourite Slam in Paris, where she has won the title four times.
Przegląd Sportowy also added that the passing of Świątek's grandfather impacted her mental fatigue before the Madrid Open commenced, having flown to Poland for the funeral. This was news that she hid from the media.
She has failed to win a title or reach the final of any tournament since winning the French Open last year.
The former world No.1's controversial four-week ban for doping after testing positive for a banned substance in August inflicted "sleepless nights" while also being targeted on social media for nearly hitting a ball kid at Indian Wells two months ago.
